The Disinfectant Wipe Advantage
Disinfectant wipes have improved infection prevention and control by making cleaning and disinfection easier and more convenient both in healthcare and the community. This has resulted in more surfaces being wiped more frequently.

Grabbing a wipe to quickly wipe down a high touch surface several times a day greatly reduces the risk of transmission. This is a fact in hospitals and will be a fact for your clinic or business.

Empower customers, visitors, staff, patients and others to actively participate in the cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces and encourage their participation as sentinels in the fight against disease transmission.

When you make cleaning and disinfection easy and convenient you improve the likelihood that it will actually get done - and that reduces the potential risk of transmission from person to person or surface to surface.
Remember, hand washing and hand sanitizing are the most important acts you can do top prevent your risk of disease. However, what gets left by one person on a high touch surface, gets picked up and transported through the next person's touch of that same surface.
What is Contact Time or Dwell Time?
HOW LONG A DISINFECTANT NEEDS TO STAY WET ON A SURFACE
The contact time of each disinfectant is found on the product label and tells us how long the disinfectant solution needs to remain WET on a surface in order to achieve disinfection.
Most disinfectants have a 5 minute to 10 minute contact time. That means the surface needs to be wet for 5 to 10 minutes.

Here is the thing... disinfectants with a 5 to 10 minutes contact time will likely need to be reapplied 2 or 3 times (sometimes more) to achieve that wet contact time.
With Disinfectant Wipes achieving that contact time can be even more challenging since it will depend on a few factors - saturation of the wipe, size of the surface you are using that wipe for, and the type of disinfectant you are using. Our blogs 5 Common Disinfectant Mistakes and How to Choose the best Disinfectant for Wipe for the Best Results explains all of these in more detail.

Understanding this is critical to creating your own cleaning and disinfection protocol to reduce the risk and spread of germs on surfaces. If you are not achieving the contact time - you are not achieving disinfection. Choosing a disinfectant that has short contact times where you can wipe and walk away knowing the surface will stay wet for the time required is key to successful disinfection program.

We Choose AHP Disinfectants
PROVEN | FASTER | SAFER | CLEANER | GREENER

Back in 1998 when disinfectants had a contact time of 10 minutes - Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide (AHP) disrupted the disinfection market as a superior, faster, safer disinfectant over legacy disinfectants such as quats, alcohols, and phenols.

AHP became the trusted disinfectant of choice in 2002 with the original SARS outbreak due to its efficacy against viruses in short contact times.

We are proud to say we were instrumental is bringing AHP to Atlantic Canada and establishing it as the disinfectant (and disinfectant wipe) of choice across the eastern provinces. We have seen how using AHP can help win the war against germs and be critical to help slow the spread of sars-cov-2 and keep our Canadian Hospitals and Community safe from COVID.
